Repair
Perhaps it’s not worth getting a toaster or kettle repaired but having a bit of work done on a vacuum, washing machine or TV could represent quite a cost saving compared with buying another new one to replace it.
Finding a professional
Most manufacturers have service departments so if it’s a quite recent purchase you may be covered under warranty or extended warranty arrangements. If it’s a bit older you could ask them for a quote. Also have a check for other companies and local shops that make repairs, one place to look is the Domestic Appliance Service Association which has a search facility for independent companies. Some makers of equipment will have a list of approved service centres you could use.
Remember to ask your friends and neighbours too – they might be able to recommend someone.
