Buying items
Visit the showroom to look around and choose the furniture you like. A list of prices can be found on their website. If you buy any items there is a small charge for delivery, the maximum charge is £12.
All items are inspected before being placed in the showroom so only good quality items will be available for you.
If you want to take advantage of the best prices please take with you proof of benefits or a referral from an agency such as social services or a charity. As they are dedicated to helping people who may have difficulty affording new furniture the pricing structures differ according to your ability to pay.
Volunteer
Volunteers help keep the showroom open, promote the furniture scheme and make sure you get the most from your experience with them. The Richmond Furniture Scheme is able to undertake small repairs to items that are donated. Skilled volunteers are essential to this service and help make more furniture available to be used again.
If you would like to gain experience please contact Linda Robinson on 020 8755 4665 or have a look on their webpage.
About the Project
Richmond Furniture Scheme was set up in 1992. As a registered charity (number 1133019) its aims are to:
- Make unwanted furniture available to people in need at minimal cost
- Encourage reuse and repair of furniture to reduce the amount of good furniture being sent to landfill
- Provide training and work experience to young people who need extra opportunities to make the most of their abilities
By accepting donations of unwanted good quality furniture, making small repairs when possible and making this available to Richmond residents they hope to assist those struggling to have a good quality of life.
Richmond Furniture Scheme also provides training opportunities helped by two volunteers and a permanent member of staff. In 2009/10 they gave training to 11 young people and they restored 773 items of furniture to be used by people who cannot afford to buy new furniture.
