Gemma’s Extra Week
In order to complete the challenge from 1 March – 13 April, I volunteered to do an extra week. I found my second week of the Six Items Challenge much better than the first. The week was quite warm so I was lucky.
What Clothes I Chose
I planned my outfits carefully selecting:
1. 1 pair of black skinny jeans,
2. 1 pair of black tracksuit bottoms
3. 1 black long sleeve t-shirt
4. 1 black hoodie
5. 1 jacket
6. 1 jumper
I mostly wear black anyhow so I was quite happy with my mono colour clothing choice. I combined the above to suit the work I had for that week, working in the office, from home and delivering vegetables. I also kept in mind a big family reunion on Sunday.
How I wore them
Here are my clothing combinations for the week:
Monday: 1,3,4,5
Tuesday : same combination
Wends: 2,3,4,5
Thurs: 1,3,4
Fri: 1,3,4,5
Sat: 2,3,5
Sun: 1,3,5,6
My final thoughts
Not too bad. Although six items is doable I think more is needed. Washing in-between and getting clothes dry in time for reusing them was a bit hard.
Clothing is always a complex question when it comes to the environment. There are issues around wasting water washing them so often and also wearing them out faster from the washing machines tumble cleaning system. The processes of creating the items are so polluting and so is keeping them clean. Being vegan also means that I use predominantly synthetic materials. Are they the most environmentally friendly? I am not sure.
One thing for sure that I know is I don’t need to buy new clothes. I customise, find or get gifted clothing so I really only ever need shoes and underwear from new.
