Brent Waste Transfer Station
The Brent transfer station handles around 15,000 tonnes of waste each year. The waste is from Brent’s household re-use and recycling centre, delivered by some London Borough of Brent street cleansing vehicles (picture right: vehicle tipping rubbish) and by small businesses.
The transfer station is located on a former landfill site now closed and designated for use as a waste site.
The waste is tipped on to the large concrete floor and then any large items that can be recycled are removed using a variety of machines (pictured below: sorting some recycling from the general waste).
Wood waste from all of the HRRCs listed on this website is brought to this location for shredding prior to being sent by road for recycling.
The waste is then compacted and loaded into large lorries. These vehicles take the waste to one of the other transfer stations to be loaded on to trains. The trains take the waste to our Severnside Energy Recovery Centre where its used as a renewable energy source.
The items to be recycled are also loaded into large lorries and transported by road to companies that make new products from them.
